Paul's appeal in Romans 12:1 to present our bodies as living sacrifices flows from God's mercy revealed in the first eleven chapters, which expose humanity's rebellion against their Creator. Rather than serving as God's image bearers and worshipers, humans exchanged God's glory for self-worship, making their own rules and cutting themselves off from their loving Creator. Even religious attempts to follow God often stem from a desire for recognition rather than true devotion, leaving all humanity in need of God's transforming mercy.
