God instituted the Sabbath as both a weekly day of rest and a sign of His covenant with Israel, emphasizing that true rest comes from Him rather than human effort. While the ceremonial aspects of Sabbath law don't directly apply to New Testament believers, the principle points us to the ultimate rest found in Jesus Christ. Christians should still practice regular rest and worship, but our focus should be on the spiritual rest that comes through faith rather than strict observance of Sabbath regulations.
