I've always assumed that since we're made in his likeness, God also requires food and sleep.

I don't think that only christians get affected at the year end. Sure because of Xmas so close to new year there may be extra emphasis on it. Though other religions also have similar tenets.

Thanks for the thought-provoking post Matt. I'm reminded of something...

When we fall asleep we can remember that it is a picture of the death and resurrection of Christ (the first fruits of the resurrection) and of our own resurrection at the last day as we trust in his finished work on the cross.

side note...

Most people think that Christianity is either about morality or about having your "best life now". In reality it is about sinners being reconciled with Holy God through Christ that He might lavish his grace upon us for the vindication of His Name.

It's not about us, it's about Christ for us. It's about something that happened on this ball of dirt that we cannot escape or deny. Over 500 people saw Christ at one time (I Cor. 15). We are not Christians because we're better than anyone - quite the contrary we are Christians because we are wretched sinners who need Christ's atoning sacrifice as our substitute (Romans 5) that we might be reconciled with God in Christ. Christ rose from the dead, proving His testimony true.

steps down off soap box
