I will be moving on and up to what, for me, is one of the most exciting Web jobs I could imagine: Web manager for Desiring God. This opportunity combines many aspects of my passions, interests, skills, into what I consider my larger life mission. I am honored to join a team that is doing what I feel to be the most important work on the earth.

I will be remaining in Ames, IA and working remotely. This arrangement has been very successful within AOL and hopefully will prove to be equally successful at Desiring God. I will also be continuing my various roles at Stonebrook Church.

Thanks to all of my teammates at AOL for a great three year ride. I’m looking forward to closing out this next month in strong fashion. AOL is doing some exciting things. Keep an eye on them. I’d urge you to keep an eye on Desiring God as well.

I realize that this move is in many ways a personal and theological statement capable of starting a flame war in comments. I have no interest in that discussion in such a forum. If you want to grab a dark beer in a pub some evening to discuss in person, you know where to find me. :-)

This isn’t exactly news, but I wanted to post it. Jimmy Fallon is hilarious. I’m pretty stoked that he’s taking over for Conan who is taking over for Leno. This might just draw my attention away from Letterman… TiVo? Nah… I don’t watch that much TV.

I really, really, really, enjoyed him geeking out with Felicia Day, but even sweeter is that Engadget got to do an impromptu live video with him. Priceless.

update: I had originally, mistakenly, said that Fallon was taking over for Leno… was in a hurry with about 10 other things going on simultaneously… see, there it is again, I’m not God :-).

Born yesterday (October 12) at 3:45pm.

• head circumference: 15 inches (I’ve been told by several women that this is an important stat… ;-) )

They say she’s a large baby but she seems perfect to me. Happy and Healthy. Mom is doing well also.

Katharyn is derived from the greek “katharos” meaning “pure”. The “yn” spelling comes from my dramatic flair ;-). We’re calling her Kate. I’m pretty sure I will be calling her Katie within days, which Nancy isn’t a fan of because that’s the name of her parents’ cat. I say “bah”. Katie is a cute name.

Once again I am proud father. I now have two beautiful daughters. Elena and Kate. They are going to be quite the pair.

Brilliant, amazing, the best yet. Mark did a stellar job on the TUAW redesign. My two designers keep one-upping each other in brilliance ever since they were hired on a little over a year ago. It’s full speed ahead. Can’t wait to keep informing you of our upcoming re-launches.

Last month I posted about a design I had lingering around that I wanted to make into a real live site someday. A few weeks later, I canceled my WoW account. A few days later, I had the site prototyped and WordPress theme built. I’ve been waiting for a chance to write some permanent page content and an introductory post ever since.

Along with the redesign comes some restructuring of the content and theme. I have changed the way the archives work in hopes of longer-term intelligibility and I will likely be broadening the topics covered here in from simply Web design related matters, though that will continue to comprise the bulk of the posts for the time being. I am conceiving of this site as more a personality site now, combining my various “worlds”, music, religion, spirituality, theology, social networking, design, the Web (in general) and anything else that strikes my fancy or is important. I promise it won’t be too great a diversion from the current theme (for now).

As with everything I’ve ever done on this site and my other personal sites, this will likely remain under construction for a long time, so apologies for the mess. This new design will give me greater freedom to expand and evolve in a coherent fashion.

Congratulations to all my friends over at Crowd Fusion on the launch of Obsessable. The site is gorgeous (and it has great content already).

Covering the wide world of personal technology, Obsessable is up against some large competition, but I think the site has all the right ingredients for success: great content, great writers, a good tech crew, a great platform, beautiful design and IA. Now all you need is a gianormous marketing engine.

Congratulations Brian, Judith, Craig, Steve, Kyle, Barb, Evan, Randall, and everyone I forgot and or don’t know!!

I have four great loves in my life: Jesus, My Wife (and kid (soon to be kids)), Music, and Web Design. I talk about one of these here generally. Occasionally I mention news about my family, and I have a religion category that I’ve posted to exactly three times.

The new site would roll all of these topics (likely with the emphasis continuing to be the Web industry) into one blog.

I’m thinking the changes would be that I’d start posting music reviews, news about my band (and music we’re putting out) thoughts about being a husband and father, and the occasional theological topic.

Would you stop reading if I posted about Jesus from time to time? Music? My family? I promise this won’t become a “baby blog.” I’m just thinking about combining my “lives” here. We’ll see where it leads.

I promise to have easily accessible feeds for each topic so you can filter if you’d like ;-)

This has been sitting, half finished, for quite some time now. Maybe someday I’ll be able to build it.

I’ve been pretty quite on the Internets recently. Been “heads-down” on a huge project ever since SXSW. I’ll get to talk about it towards the end of the week :) I can vouch for the absolute productivity boost of remaining off twitter, out of Facebook/other soc.net sites, and staying invisible or offline of your IM. I wonder how people used to work in the days before these things…

I’m still continuing to study and practice “getting things done” methodology. Focusing mostly on staying de-cluttered. This has had the effect of vastly freeing up a part of my brain I didn’t know was occupied. Here are some recent good links along that line.
