My Winter Reading List

I have a shelf that contains my physical “to read” pile. I also have a proverbial “to read” list that contains books I may or may not own yet. This shelf has been quite packed all year though I am making good progress.

I came to the realization today that I have 10 books on my “to read immediately” list. The set of books which, after I finish one, I have a hard time picking from to be my next read. I was asked to share this list, so here it is.

I read primarily from four subjects: sociology/psychology (usually of the “pop” variety), theology, design (of any sort), and Web development (more technical reading). I also slip a fiction or poetry book in from (rare) time to time.

My current reading list contains a little of each.

2. The Reason for God – by Tim Keller
3. A Treatise Concerning The Religious Affections – Jonathan Edwards
4. The Justification of God – John Piper
5. The Design of Everyday Things – Donald Norman
6. The Doctrines of Grace – Boice & Ryken
7. On the Incarnation – St. Athanasius
8. The Laws of Simplicity – John Maeda
9. The Supremacy of Christ in a Postmodern World – Piper and Taylor, ed.

My theology selections could be accused of being a little one-sided (one particular camp of evangelical Christianity). That’s fair, but fear not, it’s not all I’ve read on the subject. Call this a season.

I hope to have these finished by the end of January (maybe with the exception of Religious Affections, which will be an ongoing project…) Ten books, 7.5 weeks. An ambitious task, but as things slow down during the winter months, I find more “seams” in my day to read a bit.
