Ryan Block on keyword popovers
Ryan Block on keyword popover ads. Amen brother, they will have to fire me to get this code into Engadget.
Ames Web Geek Meetup #5
For the last several months, several Web dev/designers in the Ames (central Iowa) area have been trying to unite the clans a bit, and foster some communication and collaboration amongst the central Iowa Web dev community. We’ve been meeting once a month in Ames at Old Chicago Pizza to chat about what we’re up to, processes, best practices, beer, and RoR vs. PHP.
Come join us if you are in the area! Details on Upcoming…
An Event Apart - Chicago 2007
I had the good fortune to be at An Event Apart - Chicago, and I used this as a place to take notes for my own personal use. Maybe you’ll find it interesting too. I suck at live-blogging, but that’s why I design blogs, rather than write them ;)
Enjoy.
Highlights so far:
- Lunch with Jeremy Keith
- Talking to Derek Featherstone during a break.
- Dinner with some good friends at Buca di Beppo
- Sushi at OYSY
- Meyer’s Dragon Style, Cederholm’s Tiger Style, Keith’s Crame Style, Featherstone’s Iron Style
- The fact that Nancy and Elena were there with me.
Biggest Take-home of the conference
There is so much that we can do with the technologies we have at hand when they are used in the correct manner. We need to challenge ourselves to think out of the box of conventional marking up of straight text documents (though that is still important too). Never simply say “it cannot be done”.
And check out some photos from the event.
Eric Meyer’s CSS Sculptor
I saw CSS Sculptor last night on a tweet from Molly. Zeldman’s post made me take a second look. This could be really useful in quickly generating CSS layouts efficiently, though my pride is preventing me from wanting to purchase a wizard to do this. How quickly will this become obsolete?
Something new at Firewheel?
One of my favorite design shops: Firewheel Design is cooking up something new. Those guys are masters of hype. They are like the U2 of the Web design world :) I just hope this product isn’t “How to Disassemble an Atomic BOMB”. I’m sure it won’t be ;) Best wishes guys. Can’t wait to see.
