Now also blogging at Download Squad and TUAW

I couldn’t stay away. After three years of lovingly tending these sites, I couldn’t sever the connection completely, and besides, I’d always wanted to try my hand as a real blogger.

So, starting yesterday with a post about the amazing new 27″ iMac and a few posts today about some neat Web based tools, I will also be blogging at Download Squad and occasionally TUAW, two of the best blogs in the world in the realm of software and Apple products, respectively.

ColorQube by Xerox is brilliant

So I’m a few months late on this (it was announced in May) but this is brilliant.

ColorQube by Xerox

ColorQube by Xerox is a technology that uses solid blocks of ink to laser print in color without cartridges. This means substantially less waste and (allegedly) substantially less cost. (I haven’t seen a cost comparison yet.)

This is wonderful innovation on Xerox’s part. I really hope they introduce this technology on consumer-oriented products soon! (It seems primarily geared at office and other industry-grade applications).

Way to go Xerox on vastly reducing waste. This is so intelligent I’m wondering why no one thought of it sooner!

Evaluating 40 Typefaces

The October 2009 Usability News Newsletter has a great article highlighting a recent typography study on Web font faces.

Know Your Typefaces! Semantic Differential Presentation of 40 Onscreen Typefaces

This article presents results from a study investigating the personality of typefaces. Participants were asked to rate 40 typefaces (from serif, sans serif, display, and handwriting classes) using semantic differential scales. Responses are shown by typeface class and individual typeface using scaled scores. These results are helpful to practitioners when deciding which typeface to use for online text.”
